Arriving at Kanan
You will find some traffic during high season on the Tulum-Boca Paila Freeway where the most luxurious hotels in Tulum are located including Kanan, but worry not, the destination is totally worth it.
The first thing you will notice when you enter the hotel is the temperature dropping a few degrees. Its shaded entrance and hallways provide relief from the sun’s rays and keep a steady breeze flowing that welcomes you into the heart of the hotel. Tell the main desk that you are going to the beach club and they will let you through.
Amenities
While you walk towards the beach club, you will stumble upon a large, beautiful, heated pool where you can relax and have a drink. It has a waterfall that provides constant flow and is great to take a shower after a dip in the ocean.
By visiting Kanan you have access to:
- The beach club’s chairs, tables, mattresses, and restaurant
- The pool
- Restrooms
- The Rooftop restaurant
The Beach Club
There is something magical about Tulum’s beach with its turquoise warm waters and white sand. The beach is only accessible by going through a hotel, so there are few people and street vendors.
Kanan takes great pride in its music, carefully selecting its resident DJ to make sure they create an atmosphere where its guests can both relax and party. Its current resident is Federico Mina from Apo Tulup (Check out their music on Spotify).
Minimum consumption
To use the beach club’s installations there is a minimum consumption per person of either $40, $60, $100, or $120 USD depending on where you want to chill out and how full the venue is.
Opening hours
The beach club is open from 7:00am to 6:00pm, after which all furniture is picked up and those who are not hotel guests are asked to leave. It is important to note that ALMOST ALL beach clubs in Tulum close at 6:30pm, so plan accordingly.
The Beach Club Restaurant
A day at the beach is not complete without drinks constantly flowing and the occasional snack. Kanan’s beach club fulfills the purpose.
I ordered the hummus, guacamole, and oil ceviche to great success.
However, I would not recommend the tzatziki, the torta de cochinita, nor the bbq ribs. The tzatziki had no yogurt but rather was a mix of cream and cucumber, the torta de cochinita was dry and the bbq ribs were tough.
That said, this menu provides plenty of tasty options for everybody to enjoy.
The Rooftop Restaurant
The restaurant opens at 6:00pm and offers the opportunity to watch the sunset with the jungle on one side and the ocean on the other. What is unique about this restaurant is how spread out it is and the privacy it offers its guests. The restaurant is literally on the roof of the hotel. There are plenty of nests with only one table surrounded by a bench. Single-party venues that provide an exclusive restaurant experience. Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation to guarantee your table.
