Nachi Cocom Lagoon: the birth of a classic

“A natural beauty and a tourist site that has attracted numerous visitors.” This is how Nachi Cocom Lagoon is famous for, located 52 miles from the town of Tizimín.

This hidden paradise has become a tourist site that has increased the number of visitors, both local and national. It is a jewel where you can have direct contact with nature.

Nachi Cocom Lagoon: What to expect

The project to make Nachi Cocom Lagoon into a tourist destination has developed for a couple of years with helpf of a local rural tourism association. This association, with the residents’ own resources, is turning it into an increasingly better tourist center. They have already built palapas, bathrooms, and have acquired kayaks and vests. In addition to the lagoon, people or families can enjoy the tranquility, the freshness of the trees, as well as the typical regional cuisine.

The struggle of a community

A group of 75 members of nearby communities got together to carry out the project and had the task of cleaning the trails and the whole place, to leave it in good condition. Also, with the ads made through different media and social networks, people from different places have been visiting the lagoon and it is constant.

The Nachi Cocom lagoon has grown in popularity as a tourist destination. This undiscovered gem, which just recently started to be advertised, has drawn several tourists from throughout the country. In January 2021, it was decided to reopen this place in spite of the pandemic, in order to generate income and improve the tourist stop. Results are starting to show.
