Relive a Mayan tradition at the Cozumel Planetarium

The Cozumel Planetarium is one of four in the state of Quintana Roo, and it is open to both locals and visitors. Regardless of whether you are from Mayan land or not, you will remember this trip.

Full Name:  “Cha”an Ka”an” Cozumel  Planetarium

This new planetarium has Latin America’s only 3-D digital planetarium projector. It’s a lovely planetarium with comfy reclining seats and a fantastic projector and screen. They have unique presentations on a regular basis and show items in both English and Spanish. There’s also an observatory, a number of outdoor horticulture exhibits, and a lively, modern “science museum” area. This area focuses on Mayan astronomy and local flora and fauna, in addition to the planetarium itself. There are various classrooms where local school groups are taught about their history. Even the atrium is a sight to behold.

The Cozumel Planetarium: What to do

At the Cozumel Planetarium, you can learn about the importance of the ceiba and its connection to the underworld, earthly life, and the celestial vault; also learn about the meaning of the glyphs; and then build one to take home as a present.

To round out your visit, see the film “Mayan Archaeoastronomy: Observers of the Universe,” which is only available in the Cozumel Planetarium’s DOMO. The all-Mexican production, which is projected in English and Spanish, takes viewers on a visual and experiential trip through five Mayan Riviera ancient sites: Uxmal, San Gervarsio, Chichen Itza, Edzna, and Bonampak.

The secrets of the ceiba tree

The Ceiba, the Mayas’ sacred tree, is depicted in the lobby’s center column. The Cozumel Planetarium also has a 190-seat auditorium for conferences and high-quality projections; didactic rooms, a library area, and exhibitions; and a didactic room dedicated to water resource use, management, and conservation.

The Cozumel Planetarium: Useful info

The cost of access to the planetarium is $50.00 Mexican pesos, but you can consult the special packages for students on the planetarium’s website.
