The Meson del Marques Hotel

Contrary to the big hotels and resorts on the beaches of the Riviera Maya, in central towns like Valladolid, they tend to be smaller but—some would say—with a lot more personality. Meson del Marques Hotel, for instance, used to be a mansion of impressive dimensions which was turned into a hotel over 50 years ago.

Where is the Meson del Marques Hotel?

Its location might be a bit confusing at first, since, besides a hotel, the Meson del Marques is also a very well-known local restaurant, and its access is right on the main plaza. The hotel’s access, however, is on the opposite end of the block. So, if you’re not careful, you could end up sleeping on a plate of salad and eating your luggage for dinner.

In all seriousness, that puts the hotel a mere one block away from many of Valladolid’s main tourist attractions, such as the San Servacio church and San Bernardino convent, plus countless restaurants, and bars.

What is staying at the Meson del Marques Hotel like?

As we mentioned before, like many other hotels and lodgings in Valladolid, the Meson del Marques also used to be a colonial building. What’s particularly impressive about this one is its size. 85 rooms stacked on three floors overlook a central patio with a pool—this used to be a single house!

With the décor, the hotel attempts to maintain that colonial look while, at the same time, giving it a fresh, modern twist. The result is a very cozy atmosphere of wooden furniture and doors, cool tile floors, and white walls.

Other amenities of the Meson del Marques Hotel

We’ve already mentioned its restaurant, but Meson del Marques also has a bar, called Don Diablo, on its roof. The glass railings that surround it allow for a magnificent view of Valladolid’s main plaza, with the San Servasio church at the far end.

As it is common for city hotels to be smaller than the big beach resorts, the services in them are also less. Space is limited, after all. However, that reduction feels, somehow, appropriate in places such as this, that used to be somebody’s home.

Meson del Marques has the normal hotel services, such as room service, free wi-fi, as well as laundry, and wake-up call services.
