Isla Mujeres musts
To visit Isla Mujeres is to enjoy the fine sandy beaches and transparent waters of the Caribbean. It is a small island in Quintana Roo, located off the Yucatan Peninsula. This is only 20 minutes from Cancun. Come here mainly to relax at Playa Norte. This is considered one of the best beaches in the world. Here you can also snorkel and dive in the 2nd largest reef in the world.
Garrafon Park
Garrafon Natural Park is a must-see in Isla Mujeres. Because it offers both a place to relax and several activities. The beaches of Isla Mujeres are quickly invaded and Garrafon offers a much quieter and exclusive alternative. It is a small private beach where you can access by paying an entrance fee of 90$usd which includes deckchairs, an umbrella, shower services and access to the toilet. It is the ideal place for snorkeling as Garrafon is part of the longest coral reef in the northern hemisphere and is home to a rich ecosystem.
Isla Mujeres musts: Garrafon de Castilla
Right next to Garrafon Park is its cheaper, much less crowded and quieter version: Garrafon de Castilla. It’s the perfect option for a cheap day in Isla Mujeres. It’s a simpler beach club, but it offers the same great water for swimming or snorkeling, as well as an on-site restaurant and basic facilities (deckchairs, lockers, showers). You have to take advantage of this good opportunity now before it is known and invaded by tourists.
Isla Mujeres musts: Explore Punta Sur
South of Isla Mujeres is Punta Sur, the highest point on the Yucatan Peninsula. This is a must-see place in Isla Mujeres for its magnificent views of the sea, but also for its Garden of Sculptures and the ancient temple dedicated to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of the moon and fertility. And since we are far from the beaches, there are far fewer tourists here. You can get there through the Garrafon Natural Park, by taking a nice path facing the Caribbean Sea.
Relax on one of the best beaches in the world
For several years now, Playa Norte has been in the top 10 of the best beaches in the world in the Travellers Choice awards. With its white sand, calm, warm and shallow water, it is easy to understand why.
In fact, the water is so shallow that you can walk 200 meters in the water without getting water above your waist. It is a public beach of 1km with different sections, umbrellas, bars, but also a quieter section with restaurants that is the ideal place for a family trip to Isla Mujeres. On site, you can rent deckchairs, snorkeling equipment and kayaks.
