Cozumel with little spending

There are always secrets to spending less, even when you’re in paradise. In addition, the island of Cozumel allows you to discover free activities of nature, the satisfaction of which will last a lifetime. Here are some tips on Cozumel with little spending.

Generally speaking, the island is quite expensive but there are always ways to save a few precious dollars to take care of your budget in Mexico.

Buy the ferry ticket online

It’s cheaper to buy it on the Ultramar website than on site. Bring your snorkeling equipment. A rental equipment costs about 5 USD. However, you can easily find it on Amazon, or on site (Walmart, Soriana).

Choose your beach club carefully. some, like Sky Reef and Palancar, don’t require an entrance fee or a minimum consumption. It makes a difference.

Cozumel with little spending: don’t pay for the beach

Go to the free public beach, right next to Playa Mia. Eat cheap: there are several cheap restaurants like La Pacifica (opening at 3pm), Fondita Don José, Crazy King Burrito or the Cozumel market. It’s best to stay away from the restaurants near the pier which are always more expensive.

Also, find a cheap bar. Money Bar, for example, has a terrace facing the sea, no minimum consumption and 2×1 promotions on alcohol from 5pm with music. Or buy some beers and go to the public beach right next to the bar.

Prices in Cozumel are almost always displayed in USD and pesos. Be aware that if you pay in pesos, you’ll get a better exchange rate.

Diving on board a submarine

The Atlantis XII takes you to explore the Chankanaab Reef, which is part of the 2nd largest coral reef in the world. Sitting comfortably, you will be able to admire through your porthole a multitude of colorful fish, manta rays, turtles, corals and the wreck Felipe Xicotencatl, with explanations in English and Spanish.

This is an experience accessible to young children (min 4 years old, height 91cm) as well as older people, and ideal for anyone who would like to discover the sea floor without having to dive so deep. Book in advance, as places are limited.

Cozumel with little spending: visit a pearl farm

Here is an off-the-beaten-path activity in Cozumel that few tourists know about. Cozumel Pearl Farm is a family project that was created to study and cultivate in a sustainable way the Pinctada Radiata, an oyster capable of producing pearls.

Over the years, the project has begun to attract curious people and today they offer exclusive tours for up to 8 people. The first step is to go by boat (45min) to the barn where the oysters are found. Afterwards, the guide will take you snorkeling in the crystal-clear sea to see the oysters and the beautiful reef formations. Then, you can enjoy the virgin beach and hammocks, beer and hamburger included.
