What to expect
The Tunich Artisan Fair takes place sometime between July to August. This event is a homage to local craftsmanship, It pays tribute to the boundless creativity passed down through generations of families dedicated to traditional artistic crafts. Adding a special touch, master artisans from Yucatecan communities like Xocchel, San Antonio Millet (Tixkokob), and Izamal lend their expertise. They enrich the fair with the unique flavors and techniques of their respective regions.
A new tradition
The Tunich Artisan Fair, emerging from community spirit in Dzityá, stands as a grassroots initiative. Local craftsmen and craftswomen host it, specializing in stone and woodwork. Since its inception in 2001, this event has evolved into the most significant artisan fair in the southeast. The latest edition attracted around 250 exhibitors, though stringent quality standards narrowed it down to 150 artisans showcasing their creations. In 2022, the fair drew a remarkable attendance of 100,000 people, underscoring its growing influence and community-wide appeal.
Tunich Artisan Fair: Free shuttle
Enjoy free entry to the fair, complemented by a convenient complimentary shuttle service from downtown Merida’s Plaza Grande to the fairgrounds. Beyond the talented artisans of Dzityá, the event welcomes craftsmen and craftswomen from Mérida, its commissaries, Ticul, Valladolid, and other states like Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Veracruz.
