What to expect
Dzilam is a historic port, since it is here where the Spaniards disembarked headed by Francisco de Montejo (father) to begin the conquest of the Peninsula. It was the major port of Yucatan at the time when salted meats, tallow, hides and dyewood came through this place. There has always been abundant fishing by the mouths that are nearby. The tomb of the famous 19th century pirate, Jean Laffite, is located there.
In Punta Arenas, you will have the opportunity to fish for large species; but if you like archeology you can visit the various sites that were once home to the Mayas, Xalau, Tamba, Petul and Xcan, are located very close to here.

Dzilam town in Yucatan: Location
It is located 107 km. from the city of Merida, and 79 km. east of Progreso. There are two ways to get there; by the coast arriving at Puerto Progreso, and then moving to Telchac Puerto, passing through other ports such as San Crisanto, Chabihau and Santa Clara.
