Chen Rio Beach: Cozumel’s best!
Chen Rio beach is a beautiful white sand beach located on the island of Cozumel’s west coast. It is famous for its serenity. Chen Rio is a mix of Mayan and Spanish words, with “Chen” meaning “small” in Mayan and “Rio” meaning “river” in Spanish. It was named after a river that flowed through this beach before the roadway cut off the passage between the sea and the mangroves. After Hurricane Wilma passed through, the river reappeared, but the government decided to place a drainage system beneath the road to allow the river to flow naturally.
Chen Rio beach: What to do
Chen Rio beach is located on the island’s southern shore and is only accessible by vehicle, motorcycle, or bicycle. If you want to see the flora and wildlife and see how they merge in with the shore, the rich vegetation between the beach and the bay is great. You can stay at the lovely Vista del Mar hotel, which offers extremely comfortable rooms and where the joy of resting and sleeping is mostly based on the quality of its services and attentiveness.
There are restaurants in this area that serve a variety of seafood in various forms, although they are relatively pricey. However, you can visit this beach for a moment of leisure or to have a wonderful time with family, friends, a spouse, or by yourself.
When in Rome…
Every Sunday, dozens of Cozumel families and a few brave travelers pitch their tents along Chen Rio Beach while watching their children safely swim in the natural pools. Others choose to enjoy the sun by lying on the white sand, while others enjoy the seafood and drinks offered by a couple of inexpensive beach bars.
It’s not difficult to go to Chen Rio beach. If you are staying in an all-inclusive hotel in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, request a cab to drive you to this small island paradise.
