Plan Ahead If You’re Going To Colosio Beach
If you’re looking for a public beach to spend some quiet time and relax in Playa del Carmen, Colosio Beach might be a good option. It does have its disadvantages, though.
How do I get to Colosio Beach?
Colosio Beach is quite easy to get to. Colosio Avenue runs right through Playa del Carmen—all you have to do is follow it until it stops. This is why Colosio is also known as “the Colosio Avenue beach”. Find a gate, the beach’s access, and start walking. After a few minutes, the ocean will appear in front of you.
But you can also access Colosio from other popular spots, like Playa Paraiso and Punta Esmeralda, to the north; or Playa Mamitas, to the south, by walking on the beach itself.
What can you do there?
This is one of those beaches in Playa del Carmen to bring a good book and relax. As this is a public beach, much favored by the locals, it can get crowded, though. But, because Colosio, and the other beaches around it, make one long strip of beach, it’s never so crowded that you can’t find a spot for yourself.
You do have to plan ahead, though. Bring everything you might need with you. There are no rentals around, so a towel and an umbrella are a must, as well as any stuff you usually bring to the beach, like a mask and a snorkel.
This goes for the usual beach commodities as well. There are no bathrooms and no lifeguard, so don’t get too adventurous if you go for a swim. Finally, there are no guards or security of any kind, so don’t leave your stuff unattended.
There isn’t much around Colosio Beach
Though its quietness is an asset when it comes to looking for peace, it can be a bit of a hindrance when looking for something else, like a place to eat. To find any commerce or restaurants you’ll have to walk back to Colosio avenue. Once there, a restaurant shouldn’t be too difficult to find. The same goes for convenience stores and hotels.
