How do I get to Delfines Beach?

Delfines Beach must be one of the easiest beaches to find in Cancun’s hotel zone. Besides being one of the most famous in the area, it’s right across the road from the El Rey archeological site.

There are all kinds of ways to get here, and pretty much anyone can point you in the right direction. If you’re too far away to walk here, then your best bet is to take one of the buses—also known as colectivos—that ride up and down the Cancun hotel zone.

The beach at Delfines

Delfines is one of the larger, and wider, beaches in Cancun. That means a lot of sand for the children to play in. It’s also one of the public beaches with the most palapas, which is good because there are no palm trees or any other way to protect yourself from the sun. Get here early and you’re almost guaranteed to find one unoccupied. Don’t worry if you don’t, though; here you can rent an umbrella, too. Or you can always bring yours.

Besides the steps that make up the access from the street, Delfines also has ramps to make it wheelchair accessible.

The mirador—a high balcony next to the beach access—is one of the most popular spots at Delfines since visitors like to take a picture next to the “Cancun” sign. So much so that you might have to get in line and wait your turn.

Sargazo at The Beach

Unfortunately, Delfines is one of the beaches most affected by sargazo, the algae that wash off the beaches of Cancun, and the Riviera Maya, during the summer months. Though it’s not too complicated to get rid of it in some places, the sheer size of Delfines Beach makes it difficult to clean up daily, and finding the sea lined with the not-so-attractive algae, especially on Sundays, is not out of the ordinary.
