A little tip on whale shark behavior
From mid-May to September, the largest fish in the world are attracted to the warm water that brings a lot of plankton. Dozens of whale sharks then cavort off the coast of Isla Mujeres. From December to March, other fish, also very imposing, are on the move in these waters: schools of sardines attract flocks of sailfish.
Frigate birds circling above the water reveal the underwater spectacle. We recommend visiting the island for two to three days in order to have a unique experience with whale sharks and sailfish in a very relaxed way.
When is the best time to dive in Isla Mujeres?
There is no bad time to dive in the Caribbean. In fact, water temperatures remain constant throughout the year and cool only slightly during the winter months, which means it is possible to dive about 300 days per year.
December through April is considered the best time to visit Mexico, and is therefore the most popular time to dive in the Caribbean. During these months you will find a balance between topside and underwater conditions. Since the winter months are a high season, you should book as early as possible to get the best price. In particular, June to September is the best season for whale sharks near this island.
