Escape the Playa del Carmen Rowdiness to Punta Bete Beach
Though beautiful, the beaches around the Riviera Maya are bound to get so crowded; so full of noise, tourists, and activities, that you may find yourself wishing you could take a vacation from your vacation. Punta Bete is the other side of that coin: a place to enjoy silence and isolation.
Where is Punta Bete?
It’s easy to forget how close—only five minutes away—Punta Bete is from Playa del Carmen. It’s in the Solidaridad Municipality, along the 307 Federal Highway. It feels so isolated, though; so far away from the rest of the Riviera Maya tourist experience, that you’d think you’re several miles away, in a whole other state—or planet.
The beach at Punta Bete
If you’ve ever seen a postcard or travel poster of the Riviera Maya, you’ll know they usually show a beach of powdery white sand on the edge of a turquoise, calm ocean. Well, that’s exactly what the beach at Punta Bete is like. Miles away from the loud, party environment of the Cancun beaches—both, geographically and spiritually—this is a place where to sit and listen to the breeze and the waves, read a book, think.
If you get too hot, just jump in the water. Or you could snorkel around for a while, see the seemingly peaceful, undisturbed life under the surface. You can rent all the necessary equipment in the restaurant nearby if you forgot yours.
Stuff around Punta Bete
Since we mentioned the restaurant, it is a popular place to eat around here. Just like the beach, it’s open and relaxing.
Don’t want to leave? You have several options to stay for a couple of days. There are bungalows, cabins, and even eco-hotels. If those aren’t close enough to the ocean for you, bring your tent and stay at the camping site.
Playa del Carmen is close enough for you to still enjoy everything it has to offer, too. Or, if you find yourself missing the loud and rowdy tourists, all you have to do is pick up your stuff and make the 5-minute trip back.
