Dos Ojos Cenote : The Two Eyes

Cenote Dos Ojos is one of the oldest and most traditional cenotes in the Riviera Maya. The name, meaning “two eyes,” hints at the fact that there is not a single cenote here, but two. They’re within Dos Ojos Park, which offers a variety of activities.

Facilities at Dos Ojos Cenote

As this is a whole park, the facilities are quite extensive. There are bathrooms and changing rooms, as well as lockers, as in most other cenotes, and your entry ticket includes the price of your lifejacket.

You can also rent snorkeling and diving equipment. If you’re into the latter, you can also purchase diving tours and excursions with an instructor. And, always a welcome sight, lifeguards.

Being on vacation is ironically stressing you out? Why not get a massage? Seriously, here you can get a relaxing massage surrounded by the natural environment.

Is there a place to eat at Dos Ojos Cenote?

Yes, indeed there is. Dos Ojos Park has a restaurant. But that’s not your only alternative. You can bring your own food and eat at the picnic area, provided you’ll throw your trash where it belongs or take it back with you. Alternatively, you could leave the park and find a restaurant you like the look of among the many very good restaurants around here.

Inside the Dos Ojos Cenote

As we said at the beginning, Dos Ojos is made from two cenotes, called West Eye and East Eye. You’ll quickly find most visitors spend their time in the main cenote, as it has the most natural light. So, if you’d like to spend your time at a quieter place and don’t mind sacrificing a little light you can go check the other Eye out.

The depth varies in both, so there’s a zone for everyone. Dive all the way to the bottom or bring your kids and stay in the shallow end—this place is for the whole family.

If you don’t like bats, don’t look up. A few live among the stalactites overhead. If you do like them, though, a guide can take you to the cave between the two Eyes, entirely dedicated to them, appropriately called the “Bat Cave”.
