Punta Esmeralda Beach: A Blue Slice of Paradise

Punta Esmeralda Beach is one of the beaches you have to visit if you are in Playa del Carmen. This place is popular among locals because of its untouched beach and perfect swimming conditions. Another important selling point of this location is a particular characteristic that attracts beachgoers everywhere: a small cenote whose waters flow down to the sea, creating unique shades of blue that you won’t believe exist outside of paintings.

How can you get there?

This public beach has easy access. It is only a short walk from downtown Playa del Carmen, or you can go by car or public transport and park along the beach’s main entrance. Don’t worry, parking is free of charge.

What is the best time to visit?

Sundays and Mondays are the busiest days of the week, and the afternoons is the time when the Punta Esmeralda Beach is sure to be more crowded. So, if you want to enjoy a bit of solitude, visit from Tuesday to Saturday during the morning.

What is there to do in Punta Esmeralda Beach?

This is a kid-friendly beach. Families visit because of its shallow waters which allow for good swimming conditions. Children love to hang out at the cenote since it forms a natural swimming pool for them to enjoy.

You can go kitesurfing and kayaking if the conditions are ideal.

Many people have a picnic under the shade of a palm tree or in one of the wooden tables near the beach. And if you get hungry and don’t want to bring your own food, there are vendors and a food truck on the beach. (This is a natural area that is protected by the locals, be careful to not leave trash behind to avoid littering).

You can also take part in a friendly beach football game or play volleyball. The large stretch of sand in Punta Esmeralda Beach is the perfect playground to spend your time on a hot summer day.
