Tips for a trip to Holbox
Isla Holbox is an island that consists entirely of sand. It’s 26 miles long and 1.2 miles wide. It has numerous white beaches, turquoise lagoons and dreamlike corners. They are just waiting for your feet. What are you waiting for? These tips for a trip to Holbox could be handy.
Tips for a trip to Holbox: Start easy
It’s best to take a whole morning or afternoon for your walk. Not only in the town center, but also along the beach section directly in front of downtown Holbox, the colorful paintings adorn buildings, walls and board stalls. Pay close attention to the artwork of the Mexican artist Jano Jace, who among other things created the portrait of the sad-looking girl from the Himalayan mountains.
The little food market in the heart of downtown
Visit the food market in Downtown Holbox where the friendly Holboxeños sell freshly caught fish, sugary fruit and all sorts of healthy vegetables. Indeed, Clandestino Café has perhaps the best coffee on the island. It is roasted on site and goes perfectly with the delicious bagels or the healthy smoothie bowls. Or try the Fresco Bar & Grill Restaurant for a forbiddingly delicious lobster pizza with an unbeatable ocean view.
Tips for a trip to Holbox: The Animal Sanctuary
In the small Calle Tintorera, a bit away from downtown, hides the animal sanctuary of the island, the Refugio Holbox Animal Sanctuary. If you can, spend a few hours with all the cute dogs, cats and raccoons. There are a handful of cuddly raccoons living at the island’s animal shelter.
Punta Cocos & Punta Mosquito
Isla Holbox in Mexico is still a real paradise for water birds of many species. Large parts of the island are protected. At least once in your vacation you should make a short or even a longer hike through the pristine nature to the more untouched beaches off Playa Holbox. You can choose between the Punta Cocos or the Punta Mosquito.
