Kikil Cenote in Yucatan: What to expect

It is an open cenote of approximately 42 feet wide and is 20 deep. If you want to descend you have to go down a dirt road a little steep and be very careful not to fall.

The convent

The Ex-Convento Franciscano de Kikil invites you to embark on a captivating journey into its storied past. The weathered exterior of this former convent hints at its once-grandeur and the lives of the nuns who once dwelled within. Indeed, while it had succumbed to disrepair during years of abandonment, recent restoration efforts have made it accessible to visitors. Typically, a local guardian awaits at the entrance, collecting a nominal fee of 20 pesos per person.

Kikil Cenote in Yucatan: How to get there

Cenote Kikil is located in the town of Kikil, 3.7 miles from Tizimín. Indeed, to get there you must take highway 295 from Valladolid, approximately one hour. From Merida it is two hours via Motul, on highway 176.

Open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. Vests are available for rent, their use is mandatory.
