Insider tips for Tulum
Tulum is a pearl. Tulum is the most beautiful place on the Riviera Maya. With white sandy beaches, rustling palm leaves, cute boho shops and hammocks swaying lazily in the wind. The place has long since ceased to be an insider tip, yet it has retained its charm. The flair. The relaxation. The beauty. 93 miles of the finest Caribbean coastline stretch from north to south on the Yucatan Peninsula. And quite far to the south is this enchanting place on a fine white sand beach. Here are some insider tips for Tulum.
Tulum Town
The former fishing village of Tulum -which has now developed into a respectable town- is located directly on the highway and offers all the amenities of hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, cafes, shops, nightlife and banks. In short, everything you need -except a sandy beach.
Tulum Beach
White Caribbean beach and luxury hotels, small fine boutiques, hip smoothie shops and cute restaurants. The Zona Hoteleria has settled on the coast, just a few kilometers from Tulum town. Instead of huge hotel bunkers, you will find small bungalows hidden between palm trees and nestling pleasantly in the landscape. Yes, life is beautiful in Tulum Beach, but to be honest it is also a little remote – at least if you want to do a little more than just lie lazily on the beach.
Tulum Village
Roughly between Restaurant Gitano and Sueño Tulum is Tulum Village – a cute collection of fancy boutiques, hip smoothie bars and chic restaurants. The street is quite busy, yet the village exudes incredibly laid-back charm.
Hip idleness
In Tulum Beach, one luxury hotel follows the next. Most of them are not only hip, but also damn chic (and expensive). If you still don’t want to miss out on the comforts of a beach hotel, you can spend a perfectly comfortable day at the beach bar at Coco Tulum.
Insider tips for Tulum: The chicest public beach
Between the luxury hotels, there are also narrow paths to public beaches here and there. And as luck would have it, one of them is right next to the trendiest hotel in the area. And that’s why the beach is swept to a shine every day – you won’t find any algae or rubbish. Hard to believe, but true. We spent a wonderfully relaxing time on the beach next to the Azulik.
Savings tip: If you want to save money: pack a snack box for the beach day and put it in your bike basket. Fruit and snacks can be bought cheaply on every corner in Tulum town.
Luxury tip: Hotel Casa Malca. Probably the most notorious and most beautiful hotel on the beach in Tulum. There is plenty of art between the hammocks, and even the washroom offers photo potential of the finest kind. The hotel also has what is probably the coolest pool in Tulum.
