Experience Cozumel’s underwater views (without diving) at Atlantis Submarines Cozumel

Cozumel is famous for its underwater vistas, but a lot of people can’t or won’t snorkel or dive. Many are too young or old; many have—perhaps—medical conditions; others just don’t like it. Cozumel’s Atlantis Submarines was thought out with those people in mind and offers the perfect alternative to enjoy Cozumel’s wonderful underwater landscapes without having to swim, or even get wet.

Where is Atlantis Submarines Cozumel?

Finding Atlantis Submarines is not difficult. It’s to Cozumel’s west, on Rafael E. Melgar Avenue (which later turns into the Quintana Roo C-1 Highway), across the road from Playa del Mar hotel. Visitors coming from Playa del Carmen will find it just a few miles south of the ferry dock.

What’s the tour at Atlantis Submarines like?

Don’t think you’ll climb down to the lower deck of a boat pretending to be a submarine—this is a real submarine.

First, the Atlantis personnel give visitors a welcome and a talk about safety and what they can expect. Then, you’ll get your picture taken in front of a gray screen that will be edited later for a souvenir. Then, off to the dock.

But it’s not time to board the submarine just yet. As it’s waiting for you in the middle of the ocean, you’ll board a boat to it. Once there, though, visitors are welcomed by the captain and climb below, into the submarine.

The tour hasn’t even started and the view is already breathtaking as the whole submarine is filled with the blue hue of the waters of the Caribbean. Once the group is on board, it’s time to set off.

What will I see on the tour?

This is not a shallow water tour. The Atlantis sub is well equipped to sink quite a few feet under the water, all the way to the bottom. You’ll even see a sunken ship.

You’ll see all kinds of sea creatures in the water, which include coral reefs, fish, turtles, and even a nurse shark or two. Sometimes, you’ll see a few creatures of a more familiar kind, like a diver or two.
