Chankanaab Park: Rest and Adventure in the Same Place

When one thinks of eco-parks, adventures like crossing muddy roads on a 4×4 or an ATV usually come to mind. Chankanaab is different, though. Rather than a frenetic fast-paced adventure, this is a place to stop, relax, and admire what this incredible part of the world has to offer.

Where is Chankanaab Park?

The islands off the coast of southeast Mexico, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel, really are something else—small paradises for us to enjoy. Chankanaab is on the latter, the bigger of the two. Given its size, everything is close here, and, if you’re staying in Cozumel itself, Chankanaab is only a few minutes away, accessible through the C-1 Highway or the coast road.

What is there to do at Chankanaab?

Chankanaab is closer to a natural reserve than an adventure park. You can’t swim in the lagoon on the premises, but it’s worth seeing just how clear the water is and the life in it. If you would like a closer look at the underwater world, though, you can rent snorkeling and diving equipment at the beach in Chankanaab. Wildlife is not the only thing to see under the water, though. See if you can find the sunk sculptures. Or, if you’d like to admire things from above, rent a glass-bottom rowboat. No rush here, explore at your own pace.

Enjoy the beach at Chankanaab

If what you’re looking for is an experience more akin to a beach holiday, once you return to the beach, take a seat, or lay on one of the wooden deck chairs. Enjoy the sun or pick one under a palapa for shade. Or perhaps you’d rather relax swaying on a hammock.

Drinks? Chankanaab’s got you covered.
