Mayá, the Lost Mayan Kingdom and its Aquatic Activities
I don’t recall Indiana Jones ever finding an ancient temple with water slides coming out of it. His loss, we have the Mayá Lost Mayan Kingdom, inspired by the jungle explorations of the 1940s. And its water slides are not the only way to explore these ancient Mayan ruins sitting in the middle of the jungle at Mahahual.
Discover the Mayá Lost Mayan Kingdom
Okay, so these are not really ancient ruins. In fact, the place is very much alive. Covering almost 20 acres of jungle, the Mayá Lost Mayan Kingdom is considered to be one of the top 25 water parks in the world by TripAdvisor.
Its main feature is an enormous pyramid, 100 feet high, in the middle of the park. Unlike any other Mayan pyramid (or any other kind of pyramid), this one has nine water slides of differing heights and intensities. Two are as tall as buildings, and another one ends earlier than you’d expect—20 feet above the water.
Other Activities at the Lost Mayan Kingdom
The pyramid also serves as the starting platform of two zip line courses, 32 yards long and 65 feet high. Besides the thrilling ride, the zip lines also give you an amazing view of the bright, green jungle around the entire park that only ends where the deep-blue sea begins. The zip line rides are varied; from a harness to roller-coaster-style.
If you need a rest from the thrills, relax for half an hour while you float on a slow-flowing river around the entire park. Learn about Mayan history and lore; its different gods and most important sites.
There’s also a zone devoted to the youngest visitors: the children’s play area has its own pools, slides, and jungle gyms.
