Punta Laguna Eco Park

Just about an hour north of Tulum there’s an oasis tucked away in the middle of the jungle that’s perfect to make the switch from the concrete jungle for the real deal. Swim, see the wildlife, and sleep under the stars to recharge your batteries.

What is Punta Laguna Eco Park?

You’ll hear them before you see them. Several families of spider monkeys call Punta Laguna their home and don’t think for a minute they’re a shy bunch. As soon as they spot you, they’ll make their way through the branches and come see what you’re doing in their home. Don’t worry, though, they’re harmless.

The Calavera Cenote

This is not that famous cenote that looks like a skull. Punta Laguna’s Calavera Cenote is smaller… and scarier. They’ll lower you down a tight hole to the dark water underneath with plenty of bats. No chance to swim—it’s too small and you’re tied to a rope. The idea is to see what a virgin cenote looks like. A hint: it’s not pretty. And yet, it’s an experience worth having.

Punta Laguna Lagoon

Run the length of the pier and splash into the Punta Laguna lagoon. Its cool waters are much appreciated after a hot day of jungle trekking. Or, if you’d like an aerial view, take the zipline to cross it at high speeds.

Hop on a canoe and row further out to explore every corner of this beautiful place. Pay close attention and you’ll spot the monkeys, still keeping an eye on you, making sure you’re on your best behavior.

Spend the night

Want to do it all over again tomorrow? Bring your tent and spend the night in a camping site inside the park. You know what they say about the jungle: it’s an entirely different experience—and world—at night.
