Del Sol is one of the most affordable lodgings on Akumal’s coast
One of the smaller towns in Quintana Roo’s Riviera Maya, Akumal is between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, only 15 minutes away from Puerto Aventuras. Contrary to other, trendier spots in Mexico’s southeast, visitors to Akumal generally come looking for a family or relaxing vacation.
That makes Akumal a popular tourist destination, with a lot of hotels and lodging options—not many on the cheap side. Located on Caleta Yalku, the street that runs around Akumal’s tourist zone, Del Sol Beachfront Hotel and Condos is one of the most affordable.
Amenities at Del Sol Beachfront Condos & Hotel
As its name implies, there’s a wide selection of lodgings at Del Sol other than your normal hotel room, though, between 100 and USD 150, it’s the cheaper option. It includes a queen-size bed, a bathroom, a kitchenette, and an ocean view balcony. Closer to USD 200, the condos are bigger, with more rooms, a living room, and a dining room. They all come with ocean view balconies and those on the ground floor have direct access to the beach.
Besides the rooms, there’s not much to Del Sol. It has a pool, a bar, and a restaurant; palapas and deck chairs on the beach, and that’s it. It’s a small bohemian place.
Things to do around Del Sol Beachfront
Because of Akumal’s size, everything is nearby—as long as you have a car. The town is separate from the tourist zone, but a short drive should get you there. Also not far is the Yal Ku Lagoon, one of Akumal’s most popular spots, where the freshwater of the cenotes meets the ocean’s saltwater. In the opposite direction, you’ll find Akumal Beach and its famous sea turtle tour.
