Disappear for a day or two at Punta Brava Beach
How do you get to Punta Brava Beach?
Punta Brava is in Puerto Morelos, a small beach town between Playa del Carmen and Cancun. It’s usually frequented by those looking for the calmer side of the Riviera Maya: beauty and no crowds.
Your best bet is to get to Punta Brava by car. Though you can get to the entrance by public transport, as it is on highway 307, a.k.a. the Chetumal-Cancun Highway, the dirt road between it and the beach is a little long, unshaded, and complicated to navigate.
What will I find at Punta Brava Beach?
Nothing. And that’s the beauty of it. Punta Brava is one of those secluded corners of the Riviera Maya where visitors come to rest, read, or meditate while listening to the waves crash. There are no services of any kind, rentals or otherwise, so make sure you bring everything you’ll need yourself.
“Bravo” means rough, which might be an allusion to the ocean here. Though swimming is not expressly forbidden, these are not the calmest waters in the Riviera Maya, and there are no lifeguards around.
This is a jagged beach, too, and the rocks make up for an interesting walk, as all manner of small creatures, seashells, and sea glass get trapped in the small pools formed by the ocean. Just make sure you wear the proper footwear and watch your step.
Casa Kayab at Punta Brava
If you’d like to spend the night, Casa Kayab is one of the few inns at Punta Brava. Its rooms are smaller apartments than hotel rooms. Each one has a kitchen and fridge, as well as a balcony. It’s like having your own place right on the beach. It’s perfect to disappear for a day or two.
