Watersports in Cancun
Cancún offers more than just beach vacations, many sports activities on, in and under the water provide variety. The beaches and the possible watersports are one of the main attractions in the Caribbean. From diving and snorkeling to sailing trips and golf courses located directly on the coast, to jet skis and kayaks. In addition, the posh hotels offer golf clubs.
Action on and around the water
Jet skiing, parasailing, water skiing and the popular banana boat are common along the beaches of Cacún. Surfing is much more attractive on the Pacific coast, but you can have fun with your surfboard here as well. The activities are either offered by the hotels themselves or by specialized organizers. Offers and equipment for different water sports can be found, for example, at Aquaworld. There are also tours to the Laguna de Nichupté, with jet skis, kayaks, pedal boats and even a mini submarine. Or how about a game of beach volleyball?
Watersports in Cancun: diving and snorkeling
The Caribbean Sea shimmers in seductive turquoise – nothing turns you on more than diving into this underwater world. Along the Caribbean coast of the Riviera Maya is one of the most spectacular diving areas anywhere. Here, after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the second largest reef in the world unfolds, the Great Maya Reef. The amazing underwater landscape with a variety of fish species and colorful coral gardens, plus the pleasant water temperatures of around 25 degrees, provide the best conditions for diving and snorkeling in Yucatán. No passionate diver can escape the “curse of the Caribbean”.
The best areas for diving and snorkeling are not necessarily near Cancún, but it is recommended to go with a certified diving provider by boat to the nearby reefs or even to the offshore Isla Mujeres, where the unique underwater museum with its sculpture park is located.
Fishing near Cancun
The waters around the huge Mayan reef off the coast of Cancún offer the best conditions for sport fishing. Barracuda, various mackerel and blue marlin are the trophies often caught. With different providers you can charter a boat privately or in a group, including everything you need for fishing. A reset of the catch and release is propagated more and more often also by the local organizers.
