Lighthouse Beach: The perfect blend of trendy and relaxing
Where is Lighthouse Beach?
Lighthouse Beach is not easy to miss—just look for the lighthouse!
Okay, if you’d like us to get a bit more specific… Although it has many access points, the main one—and perhaps the easiest to find—is at the bottom of 10th Street North, which crosses the famous 5th Avenue just one block away, where there’s a Starbucks. As you can imagine, Lighthouse Beach is very near to Playa del Carmen’s trendiest area.
Lighthouse Beach is not a party beach, though
Being so close to Playa del Carmen’s trendiest area doesn’t mean this is a party beach, though. That would be impossible, as the ocean comes almost right to the buildings, leaving us just a narrow strip of beach to enjoy. Instead, this is a place to relax (some masseuses offer massages right on the beach!).
Here you can do all the usual Riviera Maya activities, like snorkeling. Or, if you prefer being on top of the water rather than in it, there are many places where you can rent a kayak or a paddleboard.
Stuff around Lighthouse Beach
The place is surrounded by commerce. Grab a snack or a drink at a convenience store nearby and have them right on the beach. Just remember to take your trash with you, as there are no trash cans around.
If you’d like something with a little more substance, there are quite a few restaurants and bars on the beach, most of which offer shaded deck chairs. Grab one and have your food and drinks as you stare at the waves. There are also quite a few hotels and places for rent around here, some of which are oceanfront.
Unlike other places in Playa del Carmen, Lighthouse is not one of those beaches you go to escape the city. Rather, you go there to relax without leaving it.
