Xaman Ha Beach : Close to The City, Yet Far Away
Xaman Ha Beach is easy to locate. It’s within the Playacar gated community (just tell the guards where you’re going and they should let you in), close to the aviary of the same name. The beach access is not far away from the gates. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see the Playa del Carmen dock, with its ferries coming and going to Cozumel.
You can get to Playacar via public transport, which will drop you off at the gates, or drive up to it, either in your car or in a taxi. If you’re driving, there’s a parking lot to leave your car, but you’ll probably have to pay a fee.
What is there to do at Xaman Ha Beach?
This is one of those Playa del Carmen beaches to come and relax; people-watch or stare at the ocean (or even at Cozumel itself on clear days or at night); read a book, listen to music, or get lost in your thoughts.
Like Playa Fundadores nearby—on the other side of the dock—this beach is particularly wide. As a result, it doesn’t matter how crowded Xaman Ha gets, you’ll never feel like you’re stepping over other visitors or invading their personal space.
You should bring everything you’re going to need for your day at the beach, though, since there aren’t many services around—that includes bathrooms. A towel and an umbrella are a must, but you should also consider bringing a snorkel and mask.
Commerce around Xaman Ha Beach
Because Xaman Ha is right next to the gated community of Playacar, this area is mostly residential—houses, condos, and the Playacar Palace Resort are only a few paces away. There’s a famous Señor Frog’s restaurant next to the dock where you can grab something to eat and/or drink.
However, the rest of Playa del Carmen, with its wide variety of rustic and trendy places of interest, is just a short walk away. The perfect distance to spend some quiet time at Xaman Ha and return to the usual city buzz without much difficulty.
