See Every Kind of Cenote at Kantun Chi

Of the many cenote parks in the Riviera Maya, Kantun Chi must be among those with the greatest amount of these incredible and mystical places on offer. There are five cenotes in total if you get the complete package. Of course, nobody here expects you to see that many cenotes without food in your belly, so get ready for a complete experience.

See the underworld in Kantun Chi’s grotto

For some context, your guide will give you a rundown of what grottos meant to the Mayans and what legends they spawned. She or he will also let you in on where you’re going and how long you’re traveling. This introduction over, please step into the hole in the ground.

Though the trek is in water, your head always remains over the surface, no need to dive from one place to another. The caverns are very well lit so it’s easy to take in the different rock formations as your guide explains how they got to be the way they are.

The cenotes at Kantun Chi

Depending on the package you get, you’ll get access to a different number—and kinds—of cenotes, with a maximum of five. The trails between them weave and turn through the jungle and they’re almost as beautiful as the cenotes themselves. You’ll walk more than you swim.

There are different kinds of cenotes at Kantun Chi. Among them, a cave you can explore by yourself; it’s not too deep and a rope guides you in and out. There are a couple of semi-open cenotes and open cenotes as well. The water in all of them is pretty much invisible and they’re entirely surrounded by vegetation.

The restaurant at Kantun Chi

For the appropriate package, the restaurant here (called Lol-Ha) works a little differently from a standard restaurant. You order your food at the entrance so it’s good to go when you get to the restaurant later in the day. There are different traditional dishes to choose from: fish and meat, drinks, salsas, deserts—the lot.

If your package doesn’t include the food, don’t worry. You can treat the restaurant as any regular ol’ restaurant: just walk up to a table and order a la carte. Bon appétit.
