Cancun Mayan Museum

It treasures one of the most important archeological collections in the country. Underwater Museum of Art (MUSA)

Just 26 feet underwater between Cancun and Isla Mujeres, is the Underwater Museum of Art (MUSA). This is one of the most impressive museum in the world. It has 16 underwater rooms and more than 500 statues. Its facilities allow you to witness how art can help the conservation of reefs and marine fauna. This, through the creation of artificial reefs.

There are three ways to visit the Underwater Museum of Art in Cancun:

  • Snorkel or Scuba Diving (certified divers and/or beginners)
  • Onboard a glass-bottom boat
  • Jungle Tour

Museums in Riviera Maya: Island Museum

In Cozumel, you can appreciate the newly renovated Museo de la Isla. It is in a historic building dating back to the 1930’s. It offers visitors a glimpse into the island’s past. Also, its traditions and its natural diversity. Go through 11 interactive rooms and several temporary exhibits by internationally recognized artists.

Caste War Museum

Approximately 2 hours from Tulum, in the town of Tihosuco, is located this museum, created to exhibit, preserve and disseminate the historical events of this war, dating back to the 19th century, through the exhibition of relics such as paintings, documents, photographs and weapons used during this event.

Museum of Mayan Culture

In Grand Costa Maya, a territory that integrates Bacalar, Mahahual and Chetumal, culture abounds, and is one of the few areas where Mayan traditions are still practiced today. In Chetumal, one of the destinations in this area, is located the Museum of Mayan Culture, which alludes to the ancient civilizations of the area through a journey through earthly life, the underworld and a celestial vault, showing the most important and sacred aspects of this civilization. Also, a few steps from the center, the City Museum is located, where the stages of evolution from the beginnings of the Mayan civilization to the arrival of the British influence are highlighted.

Museums in Riviera Maya: Museum of Piracy

In the marvelous lagoon of the 7 colors in Bacalar, the Museum of Piracy is located inside the Fort of San Felipe. This precinct was built in 1733 with the purpose of defending the city from European pirates. Inside this iconic place, the historical development of the magical town of Bacalar is shown along with significant objects such as maps, weapons and utensils used by pirates in colonial times.
