Get the hacienda experience at Occidental Cozumel

At Occidental Cozumel, you’ll get the hacienda experience for sure. Set apart from the tall resorts around the island, this place offers its guests a homely environment with all the big hotel amenities, plus one of the most beautiful beaches on Cozumel.

Where is Occidental Cozumel?

Almost on the southernmost point of the island, and around 45 minutes from the airport, Occidental Cozumel is a bit further away than other hotels on the island. That doesn’t mean there are no tourist attractions close by, though.

Actually, Occidental is only a stone’s throw away from Punta Sur, where Cozumel’s National Reef Park is, one of the most iconic places to snorkel on the island. To the east, guests can visit the Kun Che Park and learn quite a bit about the Mayan history and culture.

What’s it like to stay at Occidental Cozumel?

In short, the hacienda experience in Occidental Cozumel is way more homely than the clinical environment of the big resorts. As it’s mostly low buildings, you might be giving up a view of the sea. The trade-off, however, is every window here is filled with the green of the lush jungle that surrounds the hotel. And homely doesn’t necessarily mean smaller. This is not a small place.

It has a whopping seven restaurants, four of which are a-la-carte, and two buffets. The remaining one—you and your kids will be happy to know—is a pizza place.

If you’re traveling with children, there’s a supervised area dedicated to them with all kinds of activities. You can leave them there while you blow out some steam at the gym. Or, better yet, get a massage in the spa at the wellness center.

There are not that many pools like in other places, but one is for adults only.

The beach at Occidental Cozumel

Continuing with the theme, the beach at Occidental is also surrounded by lush, green jungle; enough to feel like you and your fellow guests are the only people on the island. You don’t have to walk back to the hotel to get something to eat, either, as one of Occidental’s restaurants is right on the sand.
