Mahahual: Something for Everybody
Did you know there’s a place in the Riviera Maya in which you can find a popular restaurant and a secluded beach just a couple of miles away? Only an hour and a half from Bacalar, Mahahual is a developing beach community where you’re pretty much guaranteed to find something that fits your vacationing needs.
In Mahahual there is Something for everybody
For those looking for new thrills in new places, in Mahahual you can spend the day snorkeling, diving, fishing, and even kiteboarding. In the evening, you can take a walk on its recently developed Malecon and grab a bite in one of the many restaurants or beach clubs at night.
But, Mahahual has something for those looking to tie a hammock and spend some alone time in the silent nature, too. The longest stretch of remote beaches in the Mexican Caribbean is just south of the Malecon, and they’re still pretty much intact. Just remember to take everything you might need with you, as there is little to no civilization nearby!
A place for divers
Diving in Mahahual is a unique experience. Only a few yards from the coast, there are more than 40 miles of coral reef. The water stays at pretty much the same temperature all year round, so you can dive at any time—literally. Plus, the Banco Chinchorro reserve is a mere 18-mile drive away. It has 69 diving sites, which include sunken ships, some of which date back to the 16th century!
A varied beach community
The people who visit Mahahual come from all walks of life, from the cruise ship tourists to the thrill-seeking adventurers; those spending the day and those staying for the long haul. Of course, there are also the locals who live and work around the community. In Mahahual, one of the most beautiful sites in the whole of the Riviera Maya, you are guaranteed to make new and interesting friends.
