Ahau Tulum Hotel is More Than its Sculpture
The arch that surrounded the entrance to Ahau Tulum Hotel used to be its most famous feature. It was so popular, and attracted so many people, that it had to be moved somewhere else. Who knows how many hotel guests it attracted, but they probably were glad to find a beautiful, rustic boutique hotel within its walls. One that wasn’t easy to forget—if it ever was.
Ahau Tulum’s famous sculpture
You used to enter Ahau Tulum hotel through a wooden sculpture of an open-chested torso full of plants. Called “Come to the Light”, the sculpture by South African artist Daniel Popper quickly became a popular spot.
Locals and tourists liked posing in front of the sculpture to have their picture taken from across the street, which also made it—unlike many attractions around—free. Soon, it became necessary to move it.
Since 2021, the 10-meter-tall sculpture is among others in an artistic space in the Ahau Tulum hotel.
The Ahau Tulum Hotel
Guests quickly realize that Popper’s sculpture is no gimmick or publicity stunt to attract tourists to stay at a subpar hotel. Ahau Tulum is a beautiful boutique hotel of huts and cabins on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Riviera Maya.
Though, if you’re looking for a quiet, secluded place, maybe you should look elsewhere, like Nest or Diamante K. Its beach club and bar, which often feature a live band or DJ, are just a few paces from the rooms, as this place is intended for a younger, party crowd.
Ahau’s beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Tulum
Ahau’s owners can’t privatize this paradisiac beach, but they sure knew where to build their hotel to take full advantage of it. Example: only a few paces from the cabins, it faces east. So, every morning, Ahau’s staff prepares coffee and a selection of morning snacks for those early-rising guests who are looking to witness a beautiful sunrise.
