Do Every Cenote-Related Activity in One Place at Chikin Ha Park
Why go cenote-hopping when you can see different kinds of cenotes in one place? Besides swimming in its cenotes, in Chikin Ha Park you’ll get to do and experience other cenote-related activities you didn’t know existed.
Where is Chikin-Ha Park?
If you’re staying in or near the Riviera Maya, Chikin Ha Park is a great way to spend half a day. It’s only 20 minutes from Playa del Carmen and it’s very easy to find—just follow the signage.
Chikin Ha Park offers different packages, and no matter which you choose, access to the three cenotes is included in all of them, though swimming is permitted in only two.
What are the different activities at Chikin-Ha Park?
The main attraction, without a doubt, is the three cenotes. They differ quite a bit from each other, so you won’t get the same cenote three times. The first is open, surrounded by nature, both over and under the surface. If you’re looking to get the adrenaline pumping a little, you can ride the zipline across. The second is completely different. As it’s semi-open, it offers a very different view from the previous one.
It’s not permitted to swim in the third one, but admiring it is experience enough. Its main attraction is the many strands of roots that have made their way through the rocks, looking for the cenote water. This place is also used for Mayan ceremonies.
The longer route at Chikin-Ha Park
The most expensive package includes a guided tour on a bicycle. Peddle around the jungle and caves around Chikin Ha as your guide explains how cenotes are formed and their overall importance. Then, participate in a “limpia”, a Mayan ceremony to eliminate any and all bad vibes you might be carrying with you.
After all that you’ve probably worked up an appetite. Grab a plate and attack the buffet of traditional Mexican dishes included in two of the three packages. If you are regretting not getting one that included food, don’t worry—or starve—, you can purchase it separately. Alternatively, you can bring your own food and eat it at the Chikin Ha Park’s tables.
